Community garden plots now available

If you have a green thumb and you want some exercise but no yard, you need not go far.

How about your own garden plot on the base to plant as you wish?

The Health Promotion Department has partnered with Community Recreation to offer a limited number of community garden plots.

The aim is for the food grown in the garden to be made available to your Unit/Section as a way to promote healthy eating. If you, or someone at your Unit/Section is interested in a plot, contact Health Promotions by Friday, May 24.

To register please provide the following: unit/section and members who will be involved and their contact information.

There are eight unit plots available and 16 personal plots. Garden opening date is May 25 with a community planting day on June 8.

Please keep in mind: you cannot plant seed until a planting date is confirmed, you can plant only in your assigned plot, your unit/section is responsible for maintenance of the plot and cleanup at the end of the season, seeds can be provided by Health Promotions, but few are available.

This is a great opportunity to boost morale among Unit/Section members and encourage healthy choices.

For a personal plot contact Nicole Lewis at 780-840-8000 ext 2960. Or contact Lisa Fisher for unit plots at 780-840-8000 ext 6966.
