Smile cookies raise cash for MFRCS

Smile…be happy…and it only costs you a loonie.

It’s the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign, a national event which includes the three Tim Hortons restaurants in Cold Lake.

All proceeds from the sale of the Smile Cookies from Sept. 16 to 22 goes to the Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRCS) at 4 Wing.

Why are they smiles? The chocolate chunk cookies are decorated with icing eyes and, of course, a smile.

Individual Tims outlets can pick their own charity and the owners of the three local outlets have chosen to support the MFRCS. Last year’s campaign raised $11,619 for the 4 Wing MFRCS.

“That’s a lot of cookies sold in Cold Lake,” said Judith Chance, MFRCS Fund Development Manager. “We have a great relationship with the owners and staff of the Tim Hortons here and they are proud to support the military.”
The Cold Lake outlets recently donated about $4,000 worth of coffee which was sent for troops deployed in Romania and is a “great morale booster,” said Chance.

This year’s Smile Cookie campaign will raise even more for MFRCS if Chance and the MFRCS staff have their way.

It’s all about challenges. Squadron’s will be challenged to buy or sell more of the cookies with the winners having bragging rights. Individuals and units will also be invited to pose challenges.

“Show your support by purchasing Tim Hortons Smile Cookies and challenging your co-workers, local businesses, friends and family to do the same.”

For larger orders you can pick up a pre-order form at MFRCS front desk, online at CAFconnection.ca/Cold-Lake or you can email Judith.Chance@forces.gc.ca.

And you can post your Smile Cookie photos on the MFRCS Facebook page for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

“It’s all in fun and for a good cause,” said Chance.

MFRCS is a non-profit registered charity that provides a variety of programs and services to support military members and their families.
