This is Fire Prevention Week across North America and including 4 Wing Cold Lake from Oct. 6 to 12.

This year’s theme is that: “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and Practise your Escape.”

The message is clear. Fire Prevention isn’t just a job for firefighters. It’s a job for everyone.

Fire Prevention is a priority for Canadian Armed Forces and a mission 4 Wing Fire Department members take seriously throughout the year.

4 Wing Fire Department will initiate fire drills throughout the Wing and visit Art Smith Aviation Academy and MFRCS Daycare to talk about fire prevention and safety.

The wing’s Fire Department has challenged all members of the community to participate the spirit of Fire Prevention Week by ensuring that your family has a plan in the event of a fire in your home.

If you want help developing a plan, call the 4 Wing Fire Prevention Office at (780) 840-000 extension 8400.

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.
