Cookie campaign exceeds expectation

It seems perhaps an unlikely team, but Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRCS) at 4 Wing and their pals at Tim Hortons in Cold Lake are celebrating a victory and have lots to smile about.

The recent Smile Cookie campaign raised $23,308.75 for MFRCS, far more than originally expected.

It’s simple. Tim Hortons franchises across Canada sell cookies for a dollar each in a national campaign. Local franchises donate the money to a charity of their choice. Local Tim Horton’s franchise operators, Lenny and Tammy Bilodeau, chose MFRCS.

Judith Chance, MFRCS Fund Development Manager, had projected this year’s campaign would raise about $15,000.

“The cheque is significantly more than we expected, over $8,000 more,” she said.

“We are truly grateful for the support of the entire community and from the Cold Lake Tim Hortons management and staff. That’s a lot of cookies for a week-long campaign in a community of our size.” said Chance.

The money will go to MFRCS programs and services that directly impact the community, said Chance.

“It demonstrates the community’s strong support of the 4 Wing MFRCS and of our military, veterans, and their families.’’
