The 4 Wing Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRCS) is pleased to announce the 2021 Hubert (Hank) Leslie Bullis Awards of Merit.
Two prizes to be awarded are for $1000 and another for $500. Currently serving 4 Wing Cold Lake Regular Force military members who have achieved the rank of Sergeant or above, may nominate a candidate who holds the rank of Aviator, Corporal, or Master Corporal, or equivalencies and has demonstrated qualities and characteristics that sets the nominee apart from others.
The nominator must complete a Nomination Form in full, and include a minimum of 250 words explaining why the nomination is being put forward explaining how the nominee goes above and beyond the call of duty, and why the nominee is deserving of an Award of Merit.
These Awards of Merit were created by 419 Squadron’s Honorary Colonel (HCOL) Mike Bullis and his family in memory of his father, the late Flying Officer (F/O) Hubert (Hank) Bullis (1918 – 2016), a WWII Veteran with the RCAF 419 Moose Squadron.
F/O Bullis’ military career exemplified loyalty, bravery, and an incredible skill set as a pilot. He learned to fly in 1936, flew as a Halifax pilot in WWII, and spent the latter parts of his military career as a Senior Flying Instructor teaching other pilots from NATO countries, and then as a Senior Survival Instructor in the Arctic until his retirement from the military in 1956. He continued his love of flying as a bush/corporate pilot, finishing his flying career with Mobil Oil Canada, retiring in 1976.
F/O Bullis was also a prisoner of war (POW) at Stalag Luft III from January 1944 to May 1945, the origination point of The Death March and the location represented in “The Great Escape” movie.
Only one nomination will be accepted for consideration from each eligible 4 Wing Cold Lake unit. Nominations must be received no later than 15 June 2021.
Nomination forms may be submitted to Judith Chance, MFRCS Fund Development Manager, at ManagerFundDev.mfrcs@gmail.com or call the MFRCS at (780) 594-6006.
