Military families at Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake now have improved access to primary healthcare services with the opening of the new 4 Wing and Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cold Lake Medical Clinic.
The clinic, operated by the Cold Lake Primary Care Network (PCN), officially opened on June 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives, including 4 Wing and CFB Cold Lake Commander Colonel Mark Hickey, Chief Warrant Officer Carlos Oliveira, and City of Cold Lake Mayor Bob Mattice.
Located on the second floor of the CANEX Mall, near Medley Dental, the clinic provides non-urgent medical care for military dependants living on base.
Colonel Hickey told those gathered that the idea for an on-base clinic was inspired by similar efforts underway at CFB Comox. He noted that improving access to healthcare remains a priority for military families and expressed hope that strong participation from the local military community would allow the service to continue growing in the future.
The clinic will offer pre-booked appointments every Thursday morning for military dependants requiring care for non-urgent medical concerns. In addition, a walk-in clinic will operate every Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Patients attending the clinic will be required to verify their dependant status.
