The Cold Lake Air Show would like to inform the Lakeland community that operating drones is prohibited during the Cold Lake Air Show, which will run from 17 to 19 July from the hours of 11:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m MDT at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alta.
This includes but is not limited to, micro drones and remotely piloted aircraft weighing 250 grams or less when fully built and configured. The restrictions are in place within Cold Lake airspace for the Cold Lake Air Show in the interests of safety for the performers, aircraft, the public, and the members of 4 Wing. There are signs on base indicating that drone operations are not permitted, and the public is asked to adhere to the guidelines for the safety of aircraft operating during the air show.
Pursuant to section 5.1 of the Aeronautics Act, restricted airspace is established within a radius of 11 nautical miles centred on 4 Wing Cold Lake (542354N 1101656W) during the airshow (please see map below). No person shall operate an aircraft within the 11 nautical mile radius of 4 Wing Cold Lake, including remotely piloted aircraft (RPA-Drone/Micro Drones), unless the flight is authorized by Cold Lake Tower.
The use of drones is regulated by Transport Canada and subject to registration and licencing for individual or commercial usage.
