The 38th annual Officers versus Non-Commissioned Members (NCM) hockey game unfolded in front of a packed crowd inside the Colonel J.J. Parr Sports Centre on December 19th, marking yet another successful chapter in this cherished holiday tradition. The Officers cruised to a commanding 6-1 victory, much to the delight of their supporters in the stands.

Coaching the Officers’ team was none other than 4 Wing Commander Colonel Mark Hickey, who led his squad to a commanding win. Meanwhile, the NCM team was guided by 4 Wing Chief Warrant Officer Dipen Mistry, who kept his players motivated and battling hard throughout the match.

The game was a showcase of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship, with both sides leaving it all on the ice. Despite the final score, the NCM team delivered strong moments, with the crowd roaring for every opportunity they created. However, the Officers proved too much to handle, executing crisp plays and finishing with precision.

The event began with an opening ceremony featuring representatives from Cenovus Energy, Inter Pipeline, 4 Wing Personnel Support Programs (PSP) members, and Wing Command.

The holiday hockey game echoes a long-standing tradition of camaraderie and friendly competition within the Canadian Armed Forces, reminiscent of similar matches played by servicemembers during the First and Second World Wars. Beyond the rink, other seasonal customs include the holiday dinner, where senior members serve junior ranks, and the lively “sticky floor” festivities that further cement the bond among members of the CAF family.

4 Wing PSP extends its gratitude to Cenovus Energy and Inter Pipeline for their invaluable support in fostering community spirit and making this holiday tradition a success.
