Families, friends, and community members at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cold Lake are invited to celebrate the start of the summer season as the popular Kick-Off to Summer event returns on Friday, June 19.
Hosted by 4 Wing Personnel Support Programs (PSP) Community Recreation team, the free community event will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Soccer Field outside the Colonel J.J. Parr Sports Centre and promises an evening filled with activities, entertainment, and opportunities for people of all ages to come together and enjoy the start of summer.
“There’s so much to be excited about this year,” said Vania Vizcarra, Community Recreation Supervisor with 4 Wing PSP. “We’re bringing in new inflatables that both kids and adults can enjoy. For the first time, we’ll have cotton candy, thanks to the support of SISIP, making it the perfect sweet summer treat for attendees. Our popular balloons are back, and glitter tattoos will be offered for everyone, not just the kids.”
Food will also be available thanks to support from CANEX, which is sponsoring the event barbecue.
Admission is completely free, and Vizcarra emphasized that everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
“Kick-Off to Summer is open to the entire community, so everyone is welcome to join in the fun,” she said.
Should inclement weather arrive, organizers have a backup plan in place. The event will move indoors to the Colonel J.J. Parr Sports Centre, ensuring the festivities can continue regardless of the forecast.
For Vizcarra, the event represents much more than an afternoon of games and activities.
“This event is such a special way to kick off the summer season each year,” she said. “It’s not just about the activities; it’s about bringing people together. It’s a chance for families to spend quality time together, connect with others in the community, and even make new friends. Seeing everyone come together and enjoy the day is what makes it so meaningful!”
